2020 AWHONN Regional Section Conference - Pre-Con Workshop #2

Do the Drills, Skip the Drama!
Friday, March 27, 2020
9:00am - 12:00pm

Does simulation intimidate you at all?   Does your staff fear or dislike it?   Are you wondering how you will meet the Joint Commission accreditation requirement of conducting obstetrical emergency drills on your unit?  Do you lack high fidelity simulation equipment?   No problem!  This pre-conference will help to address all of these issues and more. We’ll review the Joint Commission requirements, talk about how to conduct drills (even on a shoe string budget), discuss a plan for operationalizing in-situ drills and last, but not least, how to get your staff to embrace them!  We’ll even have a hands-on segment where you will participate in an obstetrical emergency drill and debrief. Walk away with information you need to do the drills without the drama!

Objectives:
1.  Outline the Joint Commission requirements for obstetrical emergency drills
2.  Summarize best practices for simulation and debrief
3.  Describe techniques to reduce staff anxiety related to simulation/drills
4.  Devise a plan for in-situ obstetrical emergency drills
