Evidence-Based Labor Support: A Hands-On Approach for Medical Professionals

The support that a woman receives in her labor can be pivotal to the well-being, health, and the outcome of her labor, delivery and the health of her infant. This seminar will include the Scientific Evidence that supports this important fact. Hands-on education and practice will be offered to help inspire Obstetrical care providers and nurses to better understand, update, and deliver the best Evidenced-Based Hands-On Labor Support possible for a woman and her childbirth experience.

MARIESA SEVERSON, RN, BSN, MSN-WHNP, ICCE -
Mariesa Severson has served as a guest speaker for AWHONN and other professional organizations since 2010. She has been an RN for the last 33 years, and is a graduate of Arizona State University with a a BSN and a Master of Science in Nursing – Woman’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner degree. She has served as an acute care labor and delivery, postpartum, nursery and surgical RN as well as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) in private practice for the first 15 years of her career. She has served as a full time hospital-based OB nurse educator, simulation and clinical instructor as well as an associate professor of nursing for the last 17 years. She is certified as an International Childbirth Educator with the International Childbirth Education Association and inactive member of Sigma Theta Tau-International honor society of nursing. Her volunteer efforts include public speaking, publishing, & serving on the editorial board of 2 peer-reviewed Nursing journals & as a medical writer, board member and consultant for a nursing educational software company. She is a full-time Clinical Educator for an EHR Software company, proud mother of 3 amazing adult children, and continues to teach Prenatal Education part-time to Expectant families at a local Medical Center.
